In his first exhibition at the Elizabeth Leach Gallery, Kavin Buck celebrates his transition from living in the arid environment of Los Angeles to the verdant landscape of the Northwest, exemplified in his rich, gestural abstractions. There is a strong serial nature to the work in Passages, named for the paintings that comprise this exhibition. Buck explores formal painting techniques closely associated with modern and contemporary painting, incorporating elements from the surrounding natural world.
Buck received his BFA from the Otis College of Art and Design (Los Angeles, CA) and MFA at the California Institute of the Arts (Valencia, CA). He attended the American University/Parsons School of Design in Paris (France) and completed post-graduate studies at the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program (New York, NY). Buck’s art has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including shows at Laguna Art Museum (Laguna Beach, CA), La Estacion Arte Contemporaneo (Chihuahua, MX), Los Angeles Contemporary Gallery (Los Angeles, CA), University of Virginia Art Museum (Charlottesville, VA), Ruth Bachofner Gallery (Santa Monica, CA), The Drawing Center (New York, NY), and PS1 (Long Island City, NY). His works are included in many private collections. Kavin Buck lives and works in Portland, OR.
