First Thursday Reception: April 6, 6 - 8 pm

Inspired by his travels to Poland in 2016, Christopher Rauschenberg continues his passionate pursuit of documenting the everyday with quietly compelling compositions that draw the viewer in. Resurgent themes from previous exhibitions such as On African Time (2015) and Wanderings (2008) resurface as the artist uses his lens to capture street scenes, public art and other unique cultural landmarks throughout Poland. Rauschenberg’s pictures are typically void of the human form, yet strongly allude to the people who inhabit the landscape he documents. These scintillating images draw the viewer into an environment that encourages deeper investigation and contemplation, illustrating wit and beauty that is often overlooked.

Based in Portland, Oregon, Rauschenberg received his BA from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. His work has been exhibited at the Griffin Museum of Photography (Winchester, MA), the Chicago Cultural Center (Chicago, IL), the International Center of Photography (New York, NY), and the George Eastman House (Rochester, NY) among many other major institutions. An exceptionally active leader in the Northwest arts community, Rauschenberg cofounded both Nine Gallery and the photography nonprofit Blue Sky Gallery in Portland, Oregon.
