Wicked Beings and Other Characters
drawings, stories and photographs by Robert Hanson
November 7 - November 30, 2002
PREVIEW RECEPTION Wednesday, November 6, 6-8 pm
FIRST THURSDAY November 7, 6-9 pm
Inspired by the imagery of early Northern European artists and stories of the Brothers Grimm, Wicked Beings and Other Characters features the latest drawings, stories and photographs by artist Robert Hanson. Three short stories by Hanson will each feature one of his favorite early Northern European artists as its central character: Pieter Bruegel and the Giant Rabbit, Albrecht Durer and the Chiseled Christus, and Hieronymus Bosch and the Talking Picture. Accompanying the stories will be a series of portraits of fictional characters which Hanson created through the process of direct observational drawing, and photographs which suggest the imagery of forests and bring to mind stories by the Brothers Grimm.
Snapshot continues through November 30th. This exhibition represents impressions by contemporary artists from around the country who are looking at the world and reflecting things back in a variety of ways: cool and rather distantly observed, intimately and full of introspection, or from a rather nostalgic viewpoint. The exhibition features Robert Calvo, Peter Drake, Benjamin Edwards, Matt Gray, Stephen Hayes, Sean Healy, Kristan Kennedy, Tania Kitchell, Dimitri Kozyrev, Cynthia Nartonis, Pierre Picot, Topher Sinkinson, Nancy Sirkis, and Lane Twitchell.
