In honor of the centennial year of the California College of the Arts, the Elizabeth Leach Gallery is
pleased to present Coming Up: New Work by Recent Graduates of the California College of the Arts,
a group exhibition curated by Lawrence Rinder, on exhibit November 1st - December 22nd, 2007. The
artists in the exhibition range from individuals who have shown in museums and established galleries, to
those that have recently finished the college's MFA program.
From the studios of recent MFA and BFA graduates of CCA, Desiree Holman, Isaac Lin, Celia Manley,
Kyle Mock, Jay Nelson, Mitzi Pederson, Laura Plageman, Paul Schiek, Pascal Shirley and Anna Von
Mertens, Rinder has selected an electic and personal selection of works in a variety of media for the
exhibition.
Desiree Holman, who has exhibited in locations from Berkley to Milan, presents a three channel video
entitled The Magic Window, Isaac Lin, will create a site specific drawing installation, and Celia Manley,
who graduated earlier this year from the MFA program, presents a selection of works from her Drawing
as Holden Caulfield series. ,Kyle Mock will exhibit a selection of 2D and 3D works from his studio in
Oakland, California. Mock and Isaac Lin, both of whom exhibited at Triple Base Gallery at the Jupiter Art
Fair this past Septmber, will also create a limited-run zine for the exhibition.
Jay Nelson, who is currently enrolled in Bard College's MFA program, presents a selection of large scale
drawings, while Mitzi Pederson, whose work is more minimalist, will have sculpture and collage in the
show, courtesy of Ratio 3 Gallery in San Francisco. Laura Plageman, Paul Schiek and Pascal Shirley
will exhibit recent large format photographs. Anna Von Mertens, represented by Jack Hanley Gallery,
will exhibit a large scale work on fabric from the series, As The Stars Go By.
The former Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Curator of Contemporary Art at the Whitney Museum of American
Art in New York, and founding director of the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts in San
Francisco, Lawrence Rinder is currently the Dean of Graduate Studies at the California College of the
Arts. Founded in 1907, California College of the Arts (CCA) is the largest regionally accredited,
independent school of art and design in the western United States.
