Join us for a walkthrough of our current exhibition, City of Apparitions, led by the artist, Matthew Picton.
Thursday, July 11 | 5:00 - 5:30 pm
In this Fellini inspired series, Picton’s work is summoned on a large scale; a veritable “carnival” for the eyes. Through his meticulous process of research, cutting up and rearranging architectural drawings and related advertisements in a quilt-like process, adjacent to a cubist approach.
His works are comprised of real and imagined renderings borrowed from printed images which are painstakingly excised from historical documents then reconstructed into a fractured, new visual narrative. Faces of the past float amongst the compositions. In the reflection of their frames you can see your own, incidentally becoming a three-way collaboration; a “mirror” of Classical antiquity, no better expressed than in his epic work entitled Rome, the penultimate confluence of histories, past and present.
