Josef Albers
Six Variants

June 3 - July 31, 2021

This month's Print Wall features a portfolio of iconic prints by Josef Albers (1888-1976). Titled Six Variants, 1969, the set of screenprints are geometric compositions that emphasize the optical effects created through the artist’s color palette combinations. Albers is considered one of the most influential artists of the 20th century and he was especially drawn to screen printing because of the evenness and clarity of color versus other mediums like painting.  He is associated with Minimalist, Conceptual, and Op art movements, but is best known for his color square paintings exemplified in his Homage to the Square series. This special series of framed prints are on view online and in the gallery through July 31, 2021.
